COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do an ACS assessment if my degree is not in ICT?
Yes. ACS has a pathway for applicants with non-ICT degrees who have significant relevant work experience. This requires at least 8 years of relevant ICT experience and is assessed differently from the standard academic pathway.
What is the difference between ICT Major and ICT Minor assessment outcomes?
An ICT Major outcome means your degree was primarily focused on ICT. An ICT Minor means your degree included significant ICT content but was not primarily ICT focused. An ICT Minor outcome still results in a positive skills assessment but may affect which ANZSCO occupation codes you can claim.
How long is an ACS skills assessment valid for?
An ACS skills assessment is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. If your assessment is nearing expiry and you have not yet received a skilled migration invitation, you will need to apply for a new assessment.
Can I include work experience from outside Australia in my ACS application?
Yes. ACS accepts both Australian and overseas work experience as part of the assessment. The employment must be in a relevant ICT occupation and supported by reference letters on company letterhead from each employer.
What happens if I receive a negative ACS outcome?
A negative ACS assessment can be challenged through a formal reassessment process, or you can consider applying under a different ANZSCO occupation code if your experience supports it, or explore the Job Ready Program pathway. Career Launchers advises on the most appropriate response for your situation.
