AVOID THESE MISTAKES
Why Student Visas Get Refused and How We Prevent It

Weak Genuine Student Statement
The most common refusal reason. A vague or unconvincing GS statement immediately raises case officer concern. We work with you to craft a detailed, credible statement that reflects your genuine educational goals and career aspirations.

Insufficient Financial Evidence
Submitting bank statements that do not meet current benchmarks, or using funds that cannot be traced to a legitimate source, leads to refusal. We review every financial document before submission.

Course and Background Mismatch
Applying for a course that bears no connection to your previous education or work history is a red flag. We help you select courses that align with your genuine background.

Incomplete or Incorrect Documents
Missing a single required document or submitting one with incorrect details causes delays or outright refusal. Our pre-lodgement checklist review catches every gap before submission.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work while on a Student Visa?
Yes. You can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during your course study periods. During scheduled course breaks such as semester holidays, there is no restriction on hours. Your family members who accompany you on a secondary visa may also be eligible to work.
Can I bring my family with me on a Student Visa?
Yes. Your spouse or de facto partner and dependent children can apply as secondary applicants on your student visa. They will receive their own visa and may have separate work and study conditions attached.
What is the Genuine Student requirement?
The Genuine Student (GS) requirement replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement in 2024. It requires applicants to demonstrate genuine intent to study in Australia, that their proposed course aligns with their background and goals, and that they will comply with their visa conditions.
Can I change my course after arriving in Australia?
Yes, but there are conditions. You generally cannot transfer to a different registered education provider within the first six months of your principal course without that provider’s written release. We handle the course transfer process and ensure your visa conditions remain satisfied.
What happens if my course is extended?
If your institution extends your course, you will need to apply for a new student visa to cover the extra study period. Career Launchers monitors your timeline and advises you well before your current visa expiry so you are never caught off guard.
Can I apply for permanent residency after a Student Visa?
The Student Visa itself does not lead directly to permanent residency, but it is often the first step on a migration pathway. After completing your degree, you may be eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa 485, which can lead to a skilled migration application. We advise all student clients on the long-term migration pathway from day one.
